Renowned professor Hu Jinchu from China West Normal University deeply understood that the primary task in protecting giant pandas lies in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitats. However, the devastating Wenchuan Earthquake of May 12, 2008, dealt a new severe blow to Tangjiahe, putting the survival of the giant pandas at grave risk. The earthquake caused landslides, damaged bamboo forests, and left the pandas' homeland in ruins.

In the face of this disaster, Hu Jinchu swiftly led his team into action. They coordinated with the Sichuan Provincial Forestry Department to conduct a specialized investigation into the impact of the earthquake on the giant panda habitats across the province. Weaving through the mountain forests, they meticulously documented every site of destruction, scientifically assessed the impacts, and proposed a series of targeted conservation measures.

This investigation not only provided invaluable data for post-disaster ecological restoration but also significantly improved strategies for giant panda conservation. Through their actions, Hu Jinchu and his team exemplified the responsibility and commitment to protecting the environment and safeguarding life, setting a paradigm for biodiversity conservation.
