Officially established in July 2019, the School of Calligraphy at China West Normal University integrates the professional teaching resources in the former China Calligraphy Research Institute and the School of Fine Arts. It stands as one of the few dedicated calligraphy schools within comprehensive universities in Sichuan Province.

The school comprises several departments and centers, including the Department of Calligraphy Studies, the Public Courses Teaching Department, and the Calligraphy and Seal Engraving Art Exhibition and Display Department. Additionally, it houses the China Calligraphy Research Institute, a university-level research institution. Presently, the school boasts a faculty and administrative team of 16 members, including four esteemed members of the China Calligraphers Association. There are approximately 300 undergraduate students and over 30 postgraduate students.

Over the years, China West Normal University has amassed rich educational resources in the field of calligraphy arts. In its early days, the university attracted numerous renowned calligraphers and scholars, including Zhou Xubai, Chen Kenong, and Li Boyuan. Their teaching and research endeavors have laid a solid foundation for the  calligraphy education at the institution.

Committed to the study and promotion of national traditional calligraphy and seal engraving arts, the School of Calligraphy focuses on inheritance and innovation in areas such as theoretical research, creative exploration, and calligraphy education research  The school aims to cultivate exceptional teaching professionals for primary and secondary schools, as well as vocational institutions. Furthermore, it strives to train administrators for local cultural and educational departments and to develop qualified successors dedicated to the revival of traditional cultural arts.(By Lv Fengyao)
