Established in 1992, the College of Fine Arts at China West Normal University is a cornerstone of high-level fine arts education in Sichuan Province.

The college comprises three departments: Fine Arts, Painting, and Design, covering five undergraduate majors and a Master's program in Fine Arts. It has also established research institutions such as the Institute of Folk Art and Culture, the Institute of Fine Arts Education, and the Institute of Cultural Creativity, thereby constructing a multi-level art education system. With a faculty of 54 full-time teachers, including renowned domestic and international experts, the college has established an international exchange platform. Both faculty and student works have garnered numerous national awards and widespread acclaim.

The college demonstrates strong research capabilities, having secured numerous prestigious accolades, including National Social Science Fund projects, National Art Fund projects, and Ministry of Education grants. It has published over 30 academic monographs, textbooks, and art catalogs. Additionally, the school actively develops first-class provincial, ideological, political, and premium courses, continuously enhancing teaching quality and educational outcomes.

In response to the challenges of the new era, the college is deepening reforms, promoting teaching through creation, competitions, and practical experience, and promoting the integration of art with the market to develop a distinctive teaching model. The college also prioritizes serving the community's economic, social, and cultural needs by establishing several research and development bases for intangible cultural heritage, facilitating the modern transformation of traditional arts. Moreover, it has set up an art institute and an aesthetic education base in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture to support the preservation of ethnic arts and the spread of aesthetic education.
