For many years, the School of Physics and Astronomy at China West Normal University has remained true to its educational mission, focusing on societal needs and contributing to the modernization of the nation.

The school has undertaken over 60 national and provincial-level research projects and has frequently appeared in internationally renowned journals such as Nature, Nature Astronomy, and Physical Review Letters (PRL), with more than 200 published papers. The school has made significant achievements in areas such as astronomical observation, black hole research, and the exploration of the Milky Way's structure, contributing substantially to the advancement of national science and technology and social development.

China West Normal University Observatory (Lenghu, Qinghai)

The school has established a comprehensive system of foundational teaching laboratories for undergraduates and is equipped with fully functional research platforms for graduate education and scientific research. It spearheaded the establishment of the Sichuan Astronomical Society and serves as the vice-chair of the Sichuan Physical Society and the affiliated unit of the Nanchong Physical Society, underscoring its outstanding achievements and profound influence in the fields of physics and astronomy.

In terms of talent cultivation, the school has consistently been at the forefront, developing an integrated talent system that includes physics, astronomy, and materials physics. Both the physics and astronomy programs have been recognized as national first-class disciplines, with authorization to confer master's degrees in their respective first-level disciplines. The astronomy program has also been selected for Sichuan Province's Double First-Class "Gongga" Plan II, demonstrating the school's strong capabilities in the field of astronomy.

The school actively explores new pathways for talent cultivation, building a "whole-process practical education system" and a "dual-station practical teaching system." Its success in fostering moral education has earned the school the title of a Model School for Curriculum-Based Ideological and Political Education in Sichuan Province. By promoting innovation in teaching, the school fosters high-quality development in undergraduate education, with its faculty winning ten provincial and national teaching awards.

The schoolhas made significant progress in course development. Courses such as "Mechanics," "Quantum Mechanics," "Materials Preparation and Processing Technology," and "Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching of Eclipsing Binary Photometry" have been selected as first-class courses at both the provincial and national levels.
