The School of Music at China West Normal University traces its origins back to the Arts Department of Sichuan Normal University in 1993. Over the years, it has developed a well-rounded framework, balancing teaching and research while promoting coordinated development across disciplines and academic levels.
In terms of infrastructure, the school offers four undergraduate programs, including Musicology and a Master’s in Arts program, attracting students from across the country. With over a thousand enrolled graduate and undergraduate students, the school boasts advanced teaching facilities. The music building spans nearly 7,000 square meters and includes several concert halls, practice rooms, and specialized training facilities, with a total equipment value exceeding 30 million CNY.
The school is supported by a highly qualified faculty, committed to excellence in both teaching and research. In the past five years, the faculty has undertaken over 200 research projects and published 400 academic papers, along with 16 scholarly monographs.
In its commitment to talent development, the school emphasizes a well-rounded education focused on foundational knowledge, broad skills, and strong artistic abilities. The school actively promotes international collaboration and cultural exchange, hosting joint educational programs and performances with institutions from the U.S., Singapore, Costa Rica, Ukraine, and other countries, further enhancing its global presence.
The School of Music remains dedicated to the core mission of "Cultivating Virtues and Morality." By "Conducting Education with Aesthetics," it continually refines its curriculum and talent development strategies. Its influence is expanding, both regionally and nationally, with its role in serving the community becoming increasingly prominent. The school is gradually establishing a strong foothold in Sichuan, serving Western China, extending its reach nationwide, and moving towards global engagement.(By Lv Fengyao and Yan Fei)
