On September 22nd, China State Grid 2026 ‘China–Brazil–Chile Cloud Open Day’ was launched simultaneously across five locations in three countries: Zigong, China; Rio de Janeiro and Campinas, Brazil; and Santiago and Valparaíso, Chile. With the theme ‘Lights Connecting Mountains and Seas, Green Power and Craftsmanship,’ the event took lantern as a bond to build a cultural platform for cross-civilizational dialogue spanning vast distances.

Event Venue

The event transcended geographical boundaries, integrating Chinese intangible cultural heritage, local folk customs of Brazil and Chile, and stories of green power. At the main venue in Zigong, lantern experts traced the thousand-year development of the ‘City of Lanterns’, while intangible cultural heritage inheritors gave live demonstrations of traditional lantern-making techniques. Two generations of power workers shared their experiences of the transformation from manual foot patrol inspections to digital smart power supply assurance, telling the story of how new technologies have enabled the Zigong Lantern Festival to achieve 100% green power supply.

The overseas sub-venues were equally spectacular: Chilean artisans demonstrated the traditional craft of horsehair weaving, and a one-man band showcased the charm of local street culture through a unique performance. Brazil's Maré Youth Symphony Orchestra performed classic pieces, with the passionate rhythms of samba drums igniting the online atmosphere. Participants from all three locations simultaneously completed hand-painted lanterns, embedding their best wishes into each lantern and sharing their creations via cloud connections.

As a signature cultural exchange event held by China State Grid for six consecutive years, the ‘Cloud Open Day’ has consistently bridged different civilizations through cultural dialogue. Leveraging its long-term energy infrastructure cooperation in Brazil and Chile, China State Grid has implemented a series of livelihood projects—including youth arts training and community welfare assistance—alongside green power projects such as ultra-high-voltage transmission and renewable energy delivery. Several of these practices have been recognized as outstanding cases in UN sustainable development-related programs.

Going forward, China State Grid will continue to use green power as a bridge and culture as a bond, deepening two-way energy and people-to-people exchanges among the three countries and working with each other to advance the global green and low-carbon transition.
