In the morning mist of deep winter, in the fields of Han'an Village, Xiejia Subdistrict, Pengshan District, Meishan City, dozens of harvesters are busy digging up mature alisma tubers. As spades turn the soil, plump tubers emerge one after another, filling the air with the distinct fragrance of earth and medicinal herbs. This year's harvest season is particularly busy. Tricycles loaded with alisma shuttle back and forth along the field ridges, carrying the joy of the bountiful harvest to every corner of the village.

Han'an Village's flat terrain and fertile soil provide exceptional conditions for alisma growth. This aquatic medicinal herb is planted in autumn and harvested in winter, its growth cycle perfectly complementing that of rice. After the rice harvest, villagers utilize the idle paddies to cultivate alisma. This practice not only ensures grain production but also achieves a land efficiency model of "dual harvests from one field." Currently, the village's alisma cultivation area has reached over 6600 acres, with an annual output value exceeding 30 million yuan, making it a crucial pillar for increasing local farmers' income.

Pengshan District's crop rotation tradition of ‘rice + medicinal herbs’ dates back to the 1980s. Today, besides Han'an Village, large-scale cultivation has also formed in places like Yihechang Community of Xiejia Subdistrict and Xinrong Village of Gongyi Town. Currently, the total medicinal herb cultivation area in the district is approximately 32,800 acres, including 18,800 acres of alisma and 14,000 acres of Sichuan lovage rhizome. The estimated dry product output is over 8,000 tons, with a total output value of about 161 million yuan. In July 2025, ‘Pengshan Alisma’ successfully obtained the national geographical indication certification trademark, marking the official national recognition of its unique quality and brand value.
