Seeing Chengdu from a Global Perspective At 2025
CRI Online2025-12-19 17:58:16

In 2025, Chengdu successfully attracted global attention. From French President Emmanuel Macron’s morning stroll along the Jincheng Lake Greenway to the visit of the King of Spain; from the city’s ignition by the 12th World Games to the consecutive hosting of the Global Panda Partners Conference and the Park City Forum within a single week—people from diverse backgrounds unanimously chose Chengdu.

Driven by openness, Chengdu is deepening its integration into global chains of innovation, industry, supply, and value, gathering resources and elevating its capabilities on a broader stage.

French President Emmanuel Macron Visiting Sichuan University

In 2025, Chengdu welcomed numerous high-level international guests. In December, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Chengdu, exploring the Jincheng Lake Greenway, the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, and Sichuan University. Ecology, youth, and historical heritage became windows for observing China. In September, Mr. Reece, Mayor of Melbourne led delegations of education and the green economy on their first visit to Chengdu, touring vocational schools, medical centers, and new energy industries.

Institutional platforms strengthened long-term connections: In April, the International Friendship Cities Cooperation and Development Conference attracted 39 delegations from 29 countries; in November, Chengdu established a sister-city relationship with Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, bringing the total number of friendship cities to 251 (115 at the municipal level).

Chengdu International Railway Port

Chengdu now operates 82 international flight routes (including over 10 European routes), with direct flights to Brussels set to launch in 2026. The China-Europe Railway Express has operated over 36,000 trips, connecting 131 cities and reducing logistics time for enterprises to just over 10 days. Chengdu-based companies secured orders worth 50 billion yuan in Saudi Arabia and expanded their markets in Northern and Western Europe.

Beyond its vibrant urban life and pandas, Chengdu is stepping onto a larger global stage with its openness, innovation, and connectivity.
