On November 23rd, the 2025 Meishan Dongpo Marathon kicked off passionately along the Minjiang River, with 17,000 runners tracing the cultural and natural heritage of Dongpo’s hometown through their strides. This event, which has transcended mere athletic competition, has become a spectacular stage for Meishan to showcase its urban charm and promote the integrated development of culture, sports, and tourism.
At the Race
This year, Meishan Marathon is upgraded from a half marathon to a full marathon. The event featured 5,000 participants in the full marathon and 12,000 in the half marathon. After intense competition, Renwei Huang clinched the men’s title in the full marathon with a gun time of 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 16 seconds, while Ting Zhang secured the women’s championship with a gun time of 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 36 seconds.
At the Race
Meishan deeply integrated Dongpo culture into the essence of the event. The race route, likened to a "three-dimensional Dongpo poem," connected the city’s greenery with its cultural landmarks. Poetry recitation stations and traditional performances along the way allowed runners to immerse themselves in the millennia-old cultural heritage as they ran.
Medals
Notably, the event’s medals and the ‘Break 3’(finishing under three hours) trophies ingeniously incorporated elements such as the Sansu Temple and Song Dynasty window lattices, making them unique carriers of Dongpo culture.
The Dongpo Marathon also served as a vivid example of Meishan’s efforts to integrate culture, sports, and tourism. Derived activities such as the "Flavors of Meishan Expo" and scenic spot discounts are expected to attract over 50,000 participants and boost local consumption by more than 100 million yuan.
At the Race
Meishan’s sporting prowess extends far beyond marathons. From marathons to E-sports and water sports, diverse athletic trends are energizing this millennia-old city of poetry and literature. "I’ll be back next year!" has become the shared sentiment of many participants.
