The 10th World Traditional Kungfu Championships kicked off in the city of Mount Emei, Leshan on the afternoon of October. 16. A total of 5,092 martial arts artists from 54 countries and regions gathered at the foot of the mountain for the world-class "Grand Gathering of Martial Arts."

Held every two years, the World Traditional Kungfu Championships is a large-scale sports event, highest level and the most extensive influence in the global martial arts community. This year's event consists of two major groups, namely domestic and overseas, covering individual, pair and group events, and multiple categories including traditional boxing such as Tai chi and Nanquan (Southern Fist) as well as traditional apparatus including broadsword, sword and whip. From Oct. 17th to 19th, the artists will compete at the Sichuan International Tourism Expo Center, bringing audiences a series of exciting and excellent martial arts feasts.

During the opening ceremony, the International Kungfu Federation presented honorary awards to Jet Li and Wu Jing, who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of martial arts. At the same time, Wu Jing, as the new image ambassador, completed a solemn handover ceremony with Jet Li.

As the host of the event, the city of Mount Emei is a world cultural and natural heritage site, and more importantly, the birthplace of Emei martial arts, a representative project of China's intangible cultural heritage. With a long history of nearly 3,000 years, Emei martial arts becomes one of the three major genres of Chinese martial arts. It has inherited and evolved 68 schools of fist boxing and 1,942 moves and techniques, forming a unique system that "balances hardness and softness, cultivates internal strength and external techniques." People from more than 100 countries and regions have once travelled here to seek instruction in Emei martial arts.
