On the morning of September 5, the 8th Sichuan Overseas Chinese Community Conference and the 1st Overseas High-Tech Talent Exchange and Cooperation Week opened in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The event aims to strengthen ties with representatives of overseas Chinese communities while encouraging and supporting overseas scientific and technological talent and innovation teams to start businesses in Sichuan. By leveraging overseas Chinese as a “bridge” to attract talent, knowledge, and investment, the event seeks to better serve Sichuan’s high-quality development and high-level opening-up.

At the opening ceremony, Liang Guanjun, president of the United Chinese Associations of the Eastern United States Inc., said overseas Chinese capital and expertise will help drive Sichuan’s high-quality growth. Describing himself as a longtime friend of the province, he noted its transformation “from an inland hinterland to an open hub.” He also aims to support rural revitalization through charitable funds for Sichuan’s specialty agriculture and cultural tourism, and to improve livelihoods by encouraging overseas Chinese participation in education and healthcare initiatives.
The event concluded with Jin Lei, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and head of Sichuan Provincial Party Committee Organization Department, presenting awards to winners of the 10th “OHTC Cup” Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Global Overseas Chinese.

As an international competition designed to serve overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and integrate global innovation resources with industries in Sichuan and Chongqing, the 10th “OHTC Cup” has attracted wide participation since its launch in June this year. A total of 429 projects from 60 countries and regions registered, and after rigorous selection, six projects emerged as winners. Among them, the “Anocca Cell Therapy” project won the first prize.
The event will run until September 8. During the conference, 70 projects in fields such as advanced equipment manufacturing, new energy and new materials, biomedicine, the digital economy, and smart agriculture will be signed, with a total contract value of 33.906 billion yuan. (By Yang Siqi)
