On July 11, the Seventh Plenary Session of the 14th Committee of the Communist Party of China in Chengdu City was held, further solidifying the city’s commitment to fast-track the development of a global cultural tourism city and international center for consumption.

In recent years, Chengdu has adhered to its rich cultural heritage rooted in the Tianfu culture, and has continued to build on its legacy as a centuries-old commercial capital. The city has developed and elevated the “Three Cities, Three Capitals” brand, boosting its core urban competitiveness and international reputation. Significant cultural landmarks have been successfully established, such as the city's music hall and Tianfu Art Park. The city has also hosted major cultural events and has proactively explored emerging cultural and economic sectors, including animation, film and television, e-sports and sci-fi, using culture to empower high-quality economic and social development.

Chengdu is a national historical and cultural city and is recognized as China’s best tourist city. It is renowned for its majestic landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The plenary session outlined the city's ambition to launch a global branding campaign, with a focus on establishing a promotional system centered around the iconic giant panda. The goal is to create world-class tourist attractions and shopping districts, establish new landmarks for urban consumption, and cultivate new cultural tourism identities that showcase Chengdu’s beautiful landscapes, Sichuanese charm, and relaxed lifestyle. The vision is for “taking a stroll down Chengdu’s streets” to become both a cultural trend and a consumer hotspot.

Chengdu is also actively pursuing the "Event-Driven City, Industry-Promoting, and Benefiting the People" philosophy by accelerating its efforts to become a global sports event city. The plenary session highlighted the city’s plans to strengthen its sports industry, develop a comprehensive system for international high-level events, promote senior citizen-focused economies, and advance the “Sports+” industries. Chengdu aims to become a national destination for outdoor sports and further develop its status as a world-renowned sports event city.

Looking ahead, Chengdu will gather the collective wisdom and strength of the entire city to deepen the integration of culture, commerce, tourism, and sports. It will also strengthen the integration of agriculture with the cultural tourism and sports sectors, continuing to elevate the city's development as a global cultural tourism city and an international center for consumption.
